We recently visited a home in Herkimer, NY where the existing bathroom had become a major source of frustration for the homeowners. Between an outdated, high-maintenance tub and the growing need for reliable safety features, the space simply wasn’t working for their lifestyle anymore.
By identifying the specific “pain points” of their old bathroom, we were able to design a professional-grade transformation that balances high-end style with life-long accessibility.
The Fear of Falling: Safety is the Top Priority
The biggest anxiety in an older bathroom is the risk of a slip or fall. Standard tubs with high walls and slippery surfaces are a major liability, especially when there is no sturdy support to grab onto.
- The Sash Solution: We replaced the old tub with a low-threshold shower system featuring a comprehensive safety package. We installed two 16-inch Grab Bars with Hand Grips in a Brushed Nickel finish for rock-solid stability. We also integrated a Teak Folding Shower Seat (Grey Metal finish), providing a safe, comfortable place to sit that can easily fold away to maximize standing room.
The Grout Trap: Ending the Scrubbing Cycle
If you spend your weekends scrubbing mold and mildew out of porous grout lines, you are fighting a losing battle. Eventually, that moisture seeps behind the tile, leading to structural rot and expensive hidden damage.
- The Sash Solution: The homeowners chose our Premium “Breccia” Wall System in a smooth style. This system provides the elegant, variegated look of natural stone but is 100% grout-free and non-porous. It resists mold and mildew, meaning a simple wipe-down is all it takes to keep the shower looking brand new.
The Modern Touch: High-Performance Hardware
Old, leaky fixtures and flimsy shower curtains can make a bathroom feel dated and damp.
- The Sash Solution: We upgraded the hardware to a Brantford Posi-Temp Shower system in Brushed Nickel, paired with a Four-Function Handheld Eco-Performance wand for a custom shower experience. To complete the look, we installed a Basco Infinity Sliding Door with clear glass, which provides a superior watertight seal and an open, airy feel to the room.
