Pain Point Series: Rescuing the View: Solving Severe Window Rot in Sauquoit

We recently had the pleasure of working with a family in Sauquoit, NY. Our customer loved the light and space their old bay window provided, but hated what was happening underneath the surface. Like many older bay windows in Central New York, theirs was suffering from severe structural rot.

A bay window is a beautiful architectural feature, but if it isn't installed and sealed perfectly, it acts as a shelf for moisture. Here is how we addressed the three major pain points for this Sauquoit home using our Premier Window system.

The Rot Reality: More Than Just an Eyesore

Bay windows are "bump-outs," meaning they are more exposed to the elements than any other window in your house. In this Sauquoit home, water had been seeping into the wooden framework for years. By the time they called us, the rot was severe, compromising the window's stability and the home's insulation.

  • The Sash Solution: We didn't just swap the glass; we addressed the structure. By replacing the old failing units with our Premier Double Hung (PDH) and Picture Window (PIC) units, we created a high-performance barrier. We then utilized PVC Coil exterior trim to wrap the frame in a weather-tight, maintenance-free seal that ensures moisture never touches the wood again.

The Energy Drain: Argon to the Rescue

When a bay window begins to rot, the seals are usually the first thing to go. This leads to fogging between the panes and a massive amount of heat loss. In a room meant for relaxing and watching TV, a drafty window makes the space unusable in the winter.

  • The Sash Solution: We installed Double Pane Glass filled with Argon Gas (DA). Argon is denser than air, providing a superior thermal barrier that stops heat from escaping. This takes the "chill" out of the TV room and lets the family enjoy the view without the high heating bills.

The Maintenance Trap: Ending the Paint Cycle

The homeowners were tired of the constant cycle of scraping and painting the exterior of their old wood window—especially since that paint was failing to stop the rot anyway.

  • The Sash Solution: Our Premier Vinyl units in white never need to be painted, stained, or scraped. Combined with the PVC exterior wrapping, this entire bay system is now virtually maintenance-free. It will look as crisp and clean ten years from now as it does the day we finished the installation.

Stop the Rot Before It Spreads

A rotting bay window is more than an eyesore—it’s a ticking clock for your home’s structure. Don't wait for the next CNY storm to compromise your comfort.
