When you operate one of the most iconic destination restaurants in the Central Adirondacks, every detail of the guest experience matters—from the craft beer on tap to the view out the front window.
Located right along Route 28 in Inlet, NY, the Screamin' Eagle Tavern is a beloved staple for locals, vacationers, hikers, and winter snowmobilers alike. However, operating a bustling commercial restaurant in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains comes with severe weather demands. Sub-zero winter temperatures, heavy lake-effect snow accumulation, and scorching summer sun put immense strain on commercial window systems.
When older commercial windows fail, the consequences impact more than just the building's exterior—they directly affect guest comfort, staff productivity, and monthly heating and cooling bills.
By analyzing the engineering specifications detailed in the project contract for 172 State Route 28, here is how the New York Sash installation team systematically solved the commercial pain points at Inlet's favorite gathering spot.
1. The Draft Problem & High Heating Bills
In an Adirondack restaurant, window-side tables are prime real estate for guests looking to enjoy scenic views. However, when large commercial glass units lose their thermal seals, cold mountain air radiates directly onto dining guests. When diners feel an "ankle chill" or cold breeze while eating, it leads to complaints, requests to move tables, and a heating system that has to run continuously just to compensate.
The Sash Solution: We custom-manufactured six heavy-duty New Construction Picture Windows engineered specifically for high thermal performance. Each unit was built with Double Pane Argon-Filled Glass, creating a dense insulating barrier that completely blocks cold air infiltration in winter and solar heat gain in summer—keeping diners perfectly comfortable in every seat.
2. Balancing Rustic Charm with modern aesthetics
Commercial dining spaces require architectural choices that stand out to passersby on Route 28 while complementing the warm, welcoming interior tavern atmosphere. Standard, off-the-shelf commercial windows often look sterile or fail to match a mountain tavern’s unique personality.
The Sash Solution: To give the tavern's exterior a sleek, contemporary edge without sacrificing interior warmth, we utilized a custom high-contrast color scheme. For the Bar Area, four large picture windows were engineered with a high-impact Black Exterior finish paired with a clean White Interior, wrapped in smooth black aluminum coil cladding. For the Lobby Area, we installed two matching white-on-white picture windows to keep the entrance bright and inviting.
3. Harsh Adirondack Weathering & Constant Maintenance
Maintaining a commercial building in the Fulton Chain of Lakes region requires materials that can withstand aggressive freeze-thaw cycles. Traditional wood trim or painted metal frames crack, chip, and peel under relentless snow exposure, requiring costly routine repainting and structural repairs.
The Sash Solution: Our team wrapped the exterior window perimeters in custom-fitted, weather-tight Smooth Coil Cladding. This creates a completely sealed, waterproof exterior barrier against driven rain, ice buildup, and snowpack—meaning zero scraping, zero repainting, and decades of maintenance-free performance for the tavern's management.
