Congrats, James Dawes, our 2025 Shower for a Soldier Recipient!
New York Sash is proud to announce the recipient of the 2025 Shower for a Soldier Bath Makeover Giveaway. United States Army Veteran, James Dawes of Madison, NY was selected as this year’s recipient and will be receiving a bathroom makeover, free of charge from New York Sash.
Let’s meet James and hear his story…
James Dawes Military Service:
Army Veteran, James Dawes served in the United States Army for 25 years, completing three tours of duty—two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. After returning home from active duty in 2014, he continued to serve for an additional 11 years in the Army Reserve.
Beyond his military career, James has remained deeply involved in his local community. He has been an active member of his local American Legion, even serving as Post Commander for several years, where he continued to lead & give back long after his time in uniform.
James, like many Veterans suffers from PTSD stemming from his time in Iraq & Afghanistan and has recently undergone surgery to have a sizeable piece of his face taken out due to skin cancer.
After facing health challenges, major medical procedures and the loss of close family, creating a safe & functional shower space was put on hold. But now, some good news as James has been named the recipient of the 2025 Shower for a Soldier Bath Makeover Giveaway!
Started in 2020, the goal of Shower for a Soldier is to improve the life of local Veteran experiencing hardships that hinder everyday tasks such as bathing. This giveaway is made possible thanks to the support from our manufacturer, Bath Concepts, Inc. We are proud to announce James as our 2025 Shower for a Soldier recipient. Nominated by his girlfriend, Carlee, James will be receiving a free bathroom makeover from New York Sash.
“The shower area serves as a source of self care for James, a place where he can wash the bad day away, scrub the sickness away, decompress & find some peace. Currently, we have two showers, only one is functional and is a step in shower with small benches and no tub. A bath makeover would be life-changing for us.”
A Look Ahead:
New York Sash will make this wish come true by transforming the Dawes bathroom into a space that focuses on comfort, function and relaxation. Creating a space that supports both physical and mental well-being.
